Audit & Compliance Lead
Up to £60K + Car Allowance + Bens.
Elite Audit & Finance Recruitment are working in partnership for a leading UK infrastructure and construction business. The newly set up Audit & Compliance department in this growing UK business are looking for suitable Business Assurance Auditors with site/project audit and ISO management systems experience (ISO). There will also be around 50% travel and multi-site project audit work involved mainly in the Midlands area and South East.
The role:
You will be responsible for planning and delivering a risk-prioritised internal audit programme across central functions and supporting regional/project audits where required.
This covers all functional aspects of the business and the Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety and Information Security standards requirements Working closely with the Internal Audit & Compliance Manager, you will provide assurance on functional compliance, system effectiveness and control design.
You will also contribute to the integration of wider assurance insights—such as project peer reviews, BSI outcomes, and Quality Consultant feedback—to inform continuous improvement and strengthen governance.
Key Responsibilities :
Audit Planning:
• Preparing and delivering the internal audit programme for Business Units in geographical area of operation.
• Liaise with project sites, regional offices and corporate services to programme audits in line with the audit programme and Business Management Systems requirements and ongoing prioritisation of the current risk areas to the operation of the Management Systems.
• Management and reporting of all audits in the Business Unit, Project, Office or Function.
• Share lessons and business improvements resulting from audits conducted to drive our continuous improvement culture.
• Ensure alignment of functional audit priorities with the overarching internal audit strategy.
• Feed risk intelligence and findings into enterprise-level planning via the Internal Audit & Compliance Manager. Audit Delivery & follow up:
• Undertake effective, objective and consistent audits in accordance with the Guidance for Conducting Internal Audits of project sites, regional offices and functions.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
• Knowledge and understanding of relevant ISO Standards, such as: ISO45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems. ISO9001 Quality Management Systems (and National Highways Sector Schemes). ISO27001 Information Security Management Systems. ISO44001 Collaborative Business Relationship Management Systems
• Principles of effective auditing.
• Experience of performing a similar role within the construction industry, engineering, manufacturing or utilities industry.
• Lead Auditor qualification (Essential).
• Understanding of risk-based auditing approaches
• Ability to interpret functional and operational risks in line with corporate governance priorities
• Interpersonal skills and comfort with interacting with higher levels of leadership and management.
• Strong leadership acumen, eye for detail in audit delivery and reporting.
• Microsoft skills – advance level.
• Ability to plan, organise and employ effective time management to deliver audit schedule.
• Regional travel required (Essential).
• Clean driver license (Essential).
